Background

Wasn't it beautiful, weren't we cool... Oh those days! We used to mix tapes for ourselves, our friends and... for the cutest girls whom we would impress with personalized tapes, full of music they didn't know yet. For hours we would lock ourselves in our rooms, alone with records, 12"-s, singles, a turntable and a tape-deck. A perfect mix of two times 45 minutes, and you will be remembered for ever!

Who does not remember the time 'auto reverse' was introduced? Wow! That was innovation! And innovation lasted: now we have Spotify! An online library with a wide range of artists and genres! And with the possibility to share it with your friends.

Concept

Strangelove (a creative advertising agency in Amsterdam) had the idea to ask music professionals to make a Mixed Tape - a playlist in Spotify. A very simple idea with a really nice result!

Spotify

You need Spotify to listen to the tapes.

#147 Bigger than life

by School Is Cool

A journey into the influences of School is Cool. Designed to keep you on the edge of your seat, to be jarring, surprising and wide in it's span, in short: to keep you listening. 500 years of music encompassing pretty much everything. From strangely morbid native folk to the greatest melody in baroque history; from Kate Bush's idosyncratic style to a string quartet playing Arcade Fire's wildest track; from Black Francis' furious belting to Vivaldi's furioso; from a corny Bonnie Raitt ballad to gritty Skip James. Music is bigger than life. -Johannes Genard, singer of School iIs Cool -

#142 Life Changing Songs

by ED

"Each song on this playlist is special for me. They made a giant impact on my life when I heard them for the first time. For instance: Voodoo Chile really made me pick up the guitar to start making music myself. I hope the list will grow a little bit bigger in my years to follow...but not to big...because these songs are like best friends: you don't have a lot off them."

#135 C86 in 2012

by Rats On Rafts

It's very simple, a compilation of music we enjoy at this moment and have enjoyed for years, you can play it in one go and it fits together as a set and at the same time it doesn't at all. A nice C12 compilation.

#133 25 years EKKO Utrecht!

Last year, we've celebrated our 25th anniversary as a venue for upcoming, talented music. With this mixtape, we'll let you hear some of the music groups and acts that played the EKKO in those 25 years. Some are intimate, others are loud and there's some electronic music on it, as well. Please enjoy, and hopefully we're able to make a new one in 25 years from now!

#129 A bit different

by Microove

I made this podcast, to show that I have more to offer as a DJ then just a House or Techno set. I've always been a very diverse DJ and my preference of music has always been very eclectic. In this way I would like to show that to the public aswell. Hopefully you'll enjoy this slow BPM set!

#128 Rockin’ & Rollin’!

by WANNABEASTAR

I love loads of different styles of music so it wasnt easy to make a favourite list. I'm an electro dj and a live electro/punk/rock artist. But my favourite music to play at home for sure will be rock music. I love the lyrics, the heavy guitars, the raw and edgy sounds wich all together gets me in a great mood and gives me loads of inspiration. It broadens my horizon and keeps me rebellious for my time behind the turntables and on stage. So I decided to make this list a little bit more personal and about the music I listen to when I'm home dancing with my daughter.
